10/19/11

Today in history we got back into the same groups as last class and finished going over the declaration worksheet. After going over this worksheet, we had a class discussion that took up the remainder of the period. This discussion was about why people would sign the declaration and whether an agreement is better than an agreement in person. I think it was necessary to sign the declaration because it showed king George that lots of people wrote and agreed on the constitution and shows home that the people signing it are all in on their plan. I think that an agreement in writing is better than just a verbal agreement because in writing you can't go back on your word or deny you ever agreed in he first place.

Today in English we read the rest of act 3 in Julius Caesar. In the scenes we read, Caesar goes to the Capitol and is stabbed by the conspirators. After he is stabbed, Antony pretends to not be upset with the conspirators as long as they tell him why they killed his best friend. After hearing their reasons he pretends to be on their side until he spoke out against them at Caesars funeral.

Our conversation in history reminded me a lot of the scene in julius Caesar when the conspirators are deciding whether or not to have an oath to kill caesar. When faced with this decision, brutus immediately decided against it because he claimed that if they were really all in on the plan that they would not need to have an oath to make them do it. I disagree with Brutus because I think an oath would make them more motivated and more in on the plan.
